Mountain Shadows was the perfect venue for our wedding. Brian was a pleasure to work with during the entire booking and planning period. We were able to coordinate multiple trips to see the property and plan the layout of the wedding. The setting is beautiful and the house was immaculate thanks to Jamie and her crew. And this is coming from a couple that works for high-end hotels. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could imagine needing for the stay. The bedrooms are all nicely appointed. We had plenty of room for the wedding party to stay and hang out. We can’t wait to come back for a reunion!

To write in a paragraph or two describing what its like to stay at this property seems impossibly inadequate.
A year ago we did a site visit to decide if Mountain shadows would work for a family reunion with a group our size. It has been torture waiting a year for our family members to see what an incredible place Mountain Shadows is! Once we saw it for ourselves we knew it would simply blow everyone away!
The months finally passed and this July we spent four incredible days at Shadows celebrating our family with a reunion of 100 people. We filled the rooms in the house and casita and used the adorable Miner’s Camp property as well as other rental homes in Foresthill to lodge our group.
Mountain Shadows was our main venue for spending the day together and sharing our meals and activities, including playing in the gorgeous pool!
We took a group whitewater rafting one day and another day took folks of all ages to pan for gold on the stunning American River.
All throughout our reunion our family members continued to praise the venue and how perfect it was. The view itself is unimaginable and made for the absolute best photography lighting and backdrop.
The gourmet kitchen and beautiful wolf range, as well as two full size refrigerators made preparing our meals for such a large group totally doable. The beautiful grill and grilling area was the center of all dinner meals.

To be honest when we first spoke with Brian the owner, I thought perhaps it was all too good to be true. Brian is generous and kind and went so far and above to help make our experience the absolute best.
The folks at Miner’s Camp are also wonderful.

When our time together came to a close we heard lots of “Best reunion ever!” and “Can we please have the next reunion HERE?!”

We are already sketching our plans for the next gathering and hoping that we will be blessed enough to gather at this most special place in the California mountains.
I think there would be a rebellion if we attempted to plan a reunion anywhere else.
When you stay at Mountain Shadows, a little bit of it goes home with you, and it becomes part of the memories, and certainly for this family part of our legacy of love.

From the moment we pulled into the drive, we knew this home was perfect for our needs. Walking in, one is immediately surrounded in warmth and welcome. The layout of the house was perfect for our family reunion; with a game/kids room, spacious kitchen and dining area (where you will inevitably gather every day), to the outdoor patios that make the most of the out-of-this-world views! With 14 of us staying the whole time, there was never a sense of crowding. Everyone had plenty of room to relax. The big day of the reunion went smoothly, with plenty of parking, plenty of seating, and plenty of memories made!

My tips:

Take advantage of the pool. It’s fantastic.
BBQ!! We grilled everyday and it was delicious!
Be the first one up and enjoy coffee on the deck, watching the hawks circle above you. I think we made it a competition to see who would get up first!
Be present! Listen to the woodpeckers. Watch the little lizards. Breathe in the mountain air. Allow yourself time to really let the magic of this home embrace you.

A huge thank you to Brian for all his help and humor. The family looks forward to more reunions up here in this paradise you’ve created. And huge thanks to the lovely folks at Grants Hardware (just up the street) for the tables and chairs, the air pump, and the warm welcome to the area.

This house is one that people dream of living in. It was an amazing weekend to. We celebrated our daughter’s wedding. The family stayed at Mountain Shadows and the wedding was at Forest House Lodge. The house is perfect in every way. We had family dinners and a BBQ. The grill is outstanding and there is a cooler built right into the outdoor kitchen. We made s’more one night in the outdoor fireplace. While the weather was cooler than normal, it did not affect the plans. There is something for everyone to do. The boys loved the pinball machine. The grandkids loved exploring and swimming. The gourmet kitchen is a wonderful place for folks to hang out. Honestly I can not say enough about this property and the owner, Brian. He is genuinely the nicest person and treats you like family. Oh, and master bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! Can’t wait to go back.

We had our wedding at this wonderful location and I would do it again if I could! Not only is the whole location amazing but Brian was so helpful and great to work with. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a place to get married, have a family vacation/reunion, business retreat, or just a place to get away and have a peaceful weekend with a gorgeous view. We will definitely come back to enjoy another stay at this beautiful place. We never wanted to leave.

My husband & I were married at Mountain Shadows on May 5. It was an amazing, memorable, fun, & irreplaceable experience! Our guests could not stop talking about how this was the best wedding they’ve ever been to. The house is gorgeous with open space & great decor. The outside areas were beautiful! The views are incredible! Every place a picture was taken had a great view. The staff at Mountain Shadows, especially Brian & Marc, were so helpful, friendly, & kind. Their also down to earth & very accommodating. We can’t wait to go back to celebrate our anniversary. We highly recommend this venue for gatherings small or large. We loved every part of it & wish we could go back in time because it was absolutely one of the best experiences of our lives. Thank you Mountain Shadows!

Property was wonderful!!

Just had my daughters baby shower at Mountain Shadows. Everything was perfect. It rained a lot of the day so we spent a lot of time outside under the covered patio by the outdoor file place. Had about 25 people at the shower. Had no problem seating everyone. Kids had fun staying in their own room with the two bunk beds. Enjoyed the beautiful view of the canyon. Had a great time.

Our nonprofit organization held our annual staff retreat here for the first time, and it was absolutely perfect for us. The view and access to the outdoors kept us refreshed and invigorated, and the accommodations were roomy and comfortable enough to keep us close and also spread out as needed. We had no special needs, but Brian and co really worked with us ahead of time to make sure the place would help us meet our goals and plans, and followed up as we were there to ensure all was well. It was a great retreat to retreat at!

Our wedding was Gorgeous. Our guests loved the house and cabins and we received so many compliments on how beautiful and perfect Mountain Shadows was for our wedding. From the amazing kitchen to the most Beautiful sunsets. We loved that our guests felt comfortable and at home . Everyone wanted to know how we found such a great place. You feel like your on top of your own mountain but with everything you need just a short walk or drive away . I can’t say enough wonderful things about shadows Foresthill, Ca is a town that every person needs to have the pleasure of visiting if not living there. We were lucky enough to have local caters and our cake from residents of Foresthill. Hardware store rents tables and chairs ( chairs are so nice and need no covers). I was worried because all the storms but on the day of wedding the sun was out doing it’s job proving our wedding was meant to be. Thanks to Brian and the entire Mountain Shadows crew for everything but especially for the Beautiful wedding memories and for making all of us feel at home. I sincerely recommend Mountain shadows retreat for anyone planning a wedding or any special event .
I didn’t spend a lot on flowers because I knew that the Spectacular views would be all that was needed. I was right, Absolutely gorgeous

Beautiful Home Away from Home

The pictures of this home do not do it justice. It is impeccably clean and designed to be simple and spacious, but with an attention to detail that made our stay comfortable and memorable. We arrived after a long day of cross country travel just in time for the most beautiful sunset, and immediately settled in for a family holiday gathering. The kitchen is spectacular and well-equipped, and we prepared everything from Christmas morning pancakes on the griddle and cookies in the oven, to feasts on the large outdoor kitchen grill. The fireplace was already stacked with wood and ready to be lit. The beds are comfortable, and the little things like strategically placed night lights and lots of plugs for recharging things helped us to feel at home. We explored Foresthill and especially loved Auburn’s old town feel – lots of restaurants and not a chain store in sight. We also enjoyed traveling down Mosquito Ridge and hiking, and took day trips to Lake Tahoe for skiing and a change of scenery, not that we needed one. A favorite activity was just sitting in the sun on the deck, reading a book and enjoying the view. We would love to return some day.

Everything was great! Brian recommended several different people who helped pull off my wedding too! I can’t thank him and his team enough for all the help and making everything pull off! The space was clean, the rooms were perfect, we did not want for anything there and the VIEWSSSS OMG!!! Anyways, I will be back for sure and I highly recommend it to anyone! Not only that, Brian was sooo flexible with me when it came to plans changing at the last minute by friends, etc!!! I can’t recommend this place enough! 5 stars for sure!!!!

We just got married last Saturday at Mountain Shadows Retreat. I cannot say enough good things about this place. We had our rehearsal dinner and wedding here. There was plenty of room for our wedding party to stay in the house. And the Miners Camp cabins are a quick walk/drive away. Several people came up to my husband and I telling us this was the best wedding they have ever been to, and much of that was due to the view and the beautiful property. During the ceremony there was a hummingbird that hovered above my husband and I for a few seconds, and there was also a bald eagle sighting during our vows!! As nature enthusiasts we could not have imagined a more perfect place to say “I do”. Our friends are already talking about renting the house next year for a reunion!

Brian, Leaf, Wendy, Jaime, and everyone else that it connected to mountain shadows made our trip unforgettable. Everything was so easy. For example, there was an outlet that we needed that wasn’t working and after one phone call and electrition was out there fixing it! We will definitely be returning. Thank you for everything! A perfect place to start a lifetime together.

Warmly, Rita and Jake

We were beyond thrilled with the entire experience of staying at Mountain Shadows! From booking to check out, everything was easy! We booked it way in advance of our wedding to ensure my extended family had a big enough place to stay and we are so happy we did! The house and grounds are beautiful and had plenty of space for my family of 15, including entertainment for 5 kids. It was not only an amazingly beautiful and perfect place for my family to stay the weekend, but we also did the rehearsal dinner in this incredible setting with 45 people, comfortably. Everyone commented on how perfect it was! Brian was very accessible when we had questions and his team is so easy to work with to get settled during the weekend. My parents wanted to go see the house a few weeks before the wedding in order to better plan the rehearsal dinner and Brian was amazingly accommodating to invite them up to tour it. If you are looking for an unrivaled view and beautiful accommodations, this is the place! We hope we can find an excuse to stay another weekend soon!

My husband and I had our wedding at Mountain Shadows in late August and it was an absolute dream. The weather was high 70’s/low 80’s but the surrounding tall trees kept things nice and shaded after 2/3pm. The house itself is huge and has tons of amentities – it also was large enough for both our immediate families to stay there. We used the outside patio and grass area for the ceremony and the reception. The outside spaces are set up really well so everything flowed perfectly. All of our guests were in awe of the view that Mountain Shadows provides from sunrise to sunset. We can’t say enough good things about this place.

If you’re looking for a wedding venue or a family reunion, this is your place. We had 50 people at this property and the house was more than big enough for people to move around at their leisure. There’s many places to sit and relax/eat/drink.

We look forward to returning for another special trip in the future – hopefully sooner than later.

We held our daughter’s wedding ceremony and reception for 90 people at Mt. Shadows the week-end of August 12th-14th. The setting and view from the property was even more beautiful than presented in the photos on the VRBO site. Every one of our guests marveled at the view of the mountains and valleys in the distance. We held the wedding ceremony on the platform overlooking this view and the celebration afterwards on the decks and covered patios facing this same vista. It was nothing short of spectacular. The house too was very special with large rooms, lots of living space, very comfortable beds, exceptional kitchen, very modern bathrooms and spotlessly clean. We utilized every area of the property, including of course, the pool, over our wedding week-end and enjoyed our stay immensely. If you are looking for a fabulous place to host a wedding/family and friends week-end look no further than Mt. Shadows. Also, the owner, Brian, could not have been more helpful and accommodating and was a pleasure to deal with. We highly recommend this venue. Mary Kate & Bob Kleinberg Philadelphia, PA

Mountain Shadows is a Magical-Special Place for family and friends to be together all weekend

Date of Stay – July 25, 2016

All I can say is, “WOW.” A 2.5-3 hour drive from Bay Area and we dropped into a magical-mellow forest retreat called Mountain Shadows. Then we brought in 60 friends and family who stayed throughout the weekend. 18 stayed at Shadows and the rest of the group at Miner’s Camp around the corner which has 10 custom cabins on main street. It was the perfect combination and it allowed everyone to be together in Foresthill for the weekend. White Water rafting pickup at the door was cool and everyone who went had a blast. Others went Hiking or biking and a big group stayed back at Shadows swimming and chilling out. We all got together at night for a dinner on the deck. We had someone come in and barbeque Steak and Fish for 75 people. Every Bed was comfortable in every room and everyone had plenty of space. The nice thing about this property is there are many areas to claim, so different groups got to find their “sweet spot” and spend that quality time together. Our goal was to bring a lot of different people together, some for the first time, and create an environment where everyone could relax in nature and enjoy each other. It was the perfect location and EVERYONE left with great memories. A place like this would cost 5x if were in San Francisco, so we lucked out finding it and we are definitely coming back. The view is spectacular during the day and night. The photos do not do it justice. Have to see it in person. Makes me want to get married again. It is the perfect location for a private wedding weekend. THANK YOU to the great team at Mountain Shadows and the town of Foresthill, California who made sure we had everything we needed before, during, and after our stay. We were referred to Mountain Shadows through a friend who also got to stay there, but wanted to post a review on VRBO so others could see it as well. We use VRBO/Homeaway for many of our trips.

Brian and his team at Shadows were a huge part of making our wedding week absolutely perfect. Since most of our family was traveling in from around the country, we decided to take the week to spend quality time with our guests. Between Mountain Shadows and Brian’s other property, Miners Camp, we were able to do just that! Brian was incredibly helpful in connecting us with local vendors for activities during the week as well as for ensuring our Welcome Celebration the night before the wedding (at Shadows) went off without a hitch (hats off to Marc who kept the food coming throughout the evening – tri tip was perfect!). We can’t recommend Shadows enough – whether you’re looking simply for a place to relax in the mountains or for a larger event, you will not be disappointed with this beautiful property and the great team behind it. (Note: We got married at the Forest House Lodge for our actual wedding – we were thrilled to be able to keep everyone on the hill for the week!). 🙂

Incredible Property and People

I came across Mountain Shadows on my search for the perfect venue for my June wedding. I wanted a location that my entire wedding party could stay at for a few days (prior, during, after), as well as one with a beautiful setting that could accommodate my ceremony and reception. I knew when I first saw Mountain Shadows in person that it was the perfect place; the property hit each of those, and added incredible views and nearby cabins for wedding guests to boot! I can’t stress how beautiful it all is in person. But it wasn’t just the property that made me feel like this was the right choice for me; the people also made a huge difference. Brian was incredibly accommodating and lovely, every step of the way. He was prompt in his communication with me, able to work with me to make this vision for my wedding a reality, and was always solutions-oriented. I have rarely received such personal attention from property owner, although I have stayed at many AirBnBs and VRBOs in the past. The local caretaker (Jaimie) was also great to work with and, again, highly attentive. The two of them alone made the wedding weekend at the house a great experience. The listing was accurate, both the house and the grounds were well-maintained and cared for, and all of our needs were promptly and thoughtfully met. It was truly a lovely, breathtakingly beautiful, stress-free experience. I can’t recommend Brian’s properties enough. You won’t be disappointed on any front. I already can’t wait to celebrate future anniversaries at Mountain Shadows!

Mountain Shadows Retreat was the perfect location for our wedding and Brian, the owner/manager, made the whole planning and event process easy and a fun vacation getaway. From a distance, we were able to connect with Brian throughout the whole planning process and he made sure to check in with us as well and make sure we had everything covered. He offered exceptional guidance on essential items needed for a wedding in general and with having one specifically at his home; he also recommended some local vendors that were very reasonably priced and offered excellent service as well as familiarity with the venue and owner, which made things so much easier. Hearing several of our friends and family comment at the wedding how gorgeous the house and view was and how they wished their wedding was here or how they themselves would love to rent the place for a weekend getaway, just reconfirmed that we made an excellent choice. Honestly, looking back we feel lucky to have found Shadows and Brian, and have every intention of returning for future celebrations/weekend getaways with close friends. Thank you Brian for being awesome and having such an amazing house!!! You seriously rock! Lots of love from kat and pat 🙂

Our daughter’s weeding was being held at Monte Verde in Foresthill, CA. Since we had 15 people coming to town, I searched for vacation homes in the area and found Mountain Shadows. Everything about the stay was amazing. Brian was the ultimate host, giving us all the information we needed to prepare for our stay, including where to rent tables and chairs for the rehearsal dinner we hosted Friday night. The setting for dinner was perfect, including the great views overlooking the American River Canyon. The house itself exceeded all of our entertaining needs for this event. We received nothing but compliments from our guests. Again, we had 15 people staying for five nights and we were all comfortable. We had enough private bedrooms all with great bedding. Showers were plentiful (even with teenage girls staying). The kitchen was top flight for my gourmet chef wife. The views and sunsets were fantastic. The outside living areas were the highlight for me, including a fire pit and outdoor fireplace. With the pressure and demands of a wedding, we did not get a chance to experience the surrounding area. We plan on returning with several couples to enjoy the outdoors including hiking and rafting down the American River. We would recommend Mountain Shadows for family reunions, weddings, company retreats, etc. You would not be disappointed.

My husband has had a fierce passion for the Foresthill area for some time now, his favorite place to hike and explore…so when I showed him Mountain Shadows Retreat for our wedding venue it was perfect and we both fell in love! The ceremony stage we chose was the gorgeous deck off the hillside with the beautifully dramatic views of the canyon. Our wedding hosted about 65 guests, we had plenty of seating room utilizing both the decks off the back. All my guest were absolutely mesmerized by the beauty of Mountain Shadows Retreat and I am still receiving compliments weeks after the wedding on the unique and gorgeous wedding venue we chose. We stayed 4 nights and accommodated 16 of our closest family members to stay the weekend with us, all very happy and impressed with the home! The beds were soo comfy and had top of the line bedding, we woke up feeling very well rested every morning! The decor is very rustic and charming, and the kitchen was a culinary dream! Our 6 children stayed as well, and the cool arcade machine was in almost constant use as well as the pool! Mountain Shadows Retreat was the perfect setting for what we dreamed of as a perfect wedding weekend. Thank you Brian for sharing your beautiful home.

We had our wedding of 100 people (85 adults and 15 kids) at Mountain Shadows and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from beginning to end! First of all, the house is beautiful. It has been completely remodeled with great attention to detail. Our chef had no problem cooking for the wedding in the kitchen, the second fridge downstairs really helped. There was room for some family and the wedding party to stay at the house. We had guests stay at a few other houses in town and at Minors Camp (also run by Brian and Leif) down the road. The kids, of course, loved the heated pool and making smores at the firepit. The outdoor fireplace is a great place to relax in the evening. The back yard made a magical setting for the wedding ceremony, especially with the small deck overlooking the canyon. Brian and his team were so helpful throughout the entire process. We never had an issue contacting him, he was always there to help, answer questions and give suggestions (we were planning for a year). We will definitely recommend this home to anyone planning a getaway or event, and we will be returning ourselves!

We will refer this site to other future perspective people looking for a great venue to have a wedding, reunion or even just a quiet getaway with family and/or friends. The owner and fellow workers where very easy to work with and very helpful during the booking process and prior to the stay and during the stay. Foresthill’s CA was a choice for our youngest baby girl to get married and create memories with her new spouse and was the perfect place to do so. Even though it rained for the ceremony, It was just one way the God was blessing their marriage. Weather over all was great for being early April, so don’t let the time of year to dictate when you should go to spend time there, because the area and place is breath taking. Thanks to all those that where part of the facility and you all where great. ENJOY… PS: Some photos to follow!

From the moment we arrived on Saturday morning until we left on Monday, the Mountain Shadows Retreat proved to be the ideal location for the reunion of family and friends who have celebrated Super Bowls for over thirty years. The house worked perfectly to sleep seven couples and host all of our meals prepared in the gourmet kitchen and seated around the beautiful wood table. We enjoyed sitting in the warm February sun on the main deck and used the two real fireplaces: one in the kitchen and one in an outside veranda to create special atmospheres throughout the weekend. Other family and friends joined us for Super Bowl Sunday and the house accommodated them with ease. Everyone was in awe of this great find and some guests threatened never to leave. Brian was most helpful and generous in working with us to be sure our Super Bowl 50 experience was super in every way!

We stayed at Mountain Shadows over the weekend of January 9-11, 2016 and can’t say enough great things about the house and our experience with the Shadows team. We are getting married in Foresthill at the Forest House Lodge this July and booked Shadows for the week of our wedding both as a place to stay as well as for a fantastic spot to host our rehearsal dinner. On this trip, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to stay at Shadows for a weekend with our parents. This was their first time meeting (my parents are from Maine, my fiance’s are from Arizona) so it was important for us that we got to spend some quality time together where we plan on getting married and Shadows was far beyond all expectations. The house is a gorgeous modern home where no details have been overlooked – and view is just incredible. The spacious home is intimate enough for a small group like we had this weekend but will also be the perfect spot for our much larger rehearsal dinner this summer. Thanks again to Brian for coordinating this fabulous weekend with us and to Marc for making our stay in Foresthill seamless. We (and our parents!) are so excited to return for a fun-filled week at Shadows this July for our wedding! 🙂

Amazing Weekend Getaway

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – December 3, 2015

Can we move in? This was the question of the weekend! We had 8 girls for a girls weekend and it could have not been more perfect. Brian was awesome to work with as well. Very accommodating especially since we were so last min! Thanks Brian!!! First off the house is easy to access yet feels so far away from anything. We loved the location as we were traveling from the bay area. The house is amazing! Everything was new and clean and the decor was great! We cooked and had everything we needed. We loved the fireplace in both the downstairs area as well as in the kitchen. It was raining so were not able to enjoy much time outside but the pool and patio were both stunning and want to come back to use them! The views are breathtaking and the pictures don’t even do it justice. It is the perfect place to relax! THE BEDS!!! Since there were a few expecting mammas we were concerned about the beds but these beds are amazing! They are memory foam and the bedding/sets are heaven! We slept for almost 12 hours!!!!!! Overall we had such a wonderful experience. We have already talked about coming back again. Would highly recommend this to anyone. Great for weekend getaways, Family reunions, romantic weekend. Its prefect for every occasion!

Amazing company retreat, astounding service!

Date of Stay – October 1, 2015

We recently stayed at Mountain Shadows for a company retreat (20 people) and I couldn’t have better things to say about Brian, Mark, and the amazing space. It was a wonderful weekend full of relaxation, beautiful scenery, a fun time in town at Sugar Pine Pizza. Brian was immensely helpful in planning our weekend, from reaching out to local vendors, to ensuring we have a whiteboard ready for us when we arrived! I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet getaway in a beautiful home with a large group. Such a blast.

Mountain Shadows Saved Our Wedding

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – September 20, 2015

This location was a miracle, as was Brian! On September 17th, our wedding venue fell through. With only 4 days till our wedding, I was pretty confident that we would NOT find a place to get married, much less one that could accommodate guests to sleep over, was in Placer County, and had the rustic, forest feel that my husband and I had dreamed of having. Luckily, this location, and Brian miraculously appeared into our lives and everything fell into place. I cannot say enough good things about Brian. He is just one of those amazing human beings who cares about people and making sure they are happy and satisfied. I feel very strongly, that any request, he would have done his best to accommodate us and our family! Everything about staying here was relaxing. I am such an anxious person. I am anxious about hotels, deposits, check-ins and outs, directions, cleanliness, EVERYTHING! But Brian made sure to let me know he was always available for questions or if I needed any anything. As well, there is the nicest man that showed us around the property, Mark, he was so informative and friendly. Also, he lives just down the road and he also made sure we knew he was available if we needed anything. Now, about the property itself. This location is breathtaking and our wedding guests kept going on and on about how gorgeous the house and view was. People swore it was the most beautiful location they had ever seen! Oh, I was happily surprised, that even though the street is named Mosquito Ridge we did not have any mosquito bites! 🙂 This home has everything you need! It is absolutely one of those homes that you watch on TV and dream about having. We cannot wait to get the chance to go back and will always remember this location and the people who made our wedding happen, even when I was so sure everything was going to fall apart. Thank you Mountain Shadows Retreat for saving our wedding! P.S.: The husband would like a horse shoe pit. 🙂

Off the Chart

Date of Stay – September 17, 2015

First off, I would like to thank Brian Clausman for putting together such a wonderful place to have a corporate retreat at. Brian took the time to meet with me prior to our retreat and go through the ins and outs of his property. On top of that, his staff, headed by Mark, was top notch and johnny on the spot if needed. Kudos to Brian and his team. As for the property, it would be tough to find many other places like this with such fine amenities and such an incredible view over the American River gorge. Sunrise was as spectacular as sunset and the property is set up to really enjoy the views. The home is truly spectacular. The linens on the bed were complimented on by my entire team. Turns out, Brian’s wife actually makes them. The sheets were some comfy that some of our team are going to order them. The rooms are laid out perfectly for a small company retreat of approximately 12 people or less. We brought in a chef and and he thought the kitchen was perfect for our group size. The pool is excellent to relax around and the outdoor area with the fireplace makes for a phenomenal place to congregate regardless of the time of day. The house is highlighted by a ton of custom nuances from the uniquely built log kitchen table (coolest table ever as it can be rolled out onto the deck) to the headboard in the master bedroom to the cool rail car coffee table downstairs. Brian has really put together a tremendous place that would be well worth your money spent. I couldn’t recommend it enough. I hope to bring some family and friends there in the near future. We are definitely coming back.

Most amazing weekend of our lives

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – August 27, 2015

We were so lucky to be able to rent this retreat for our wedding weekend. We got married at Monte Verde Inn on August 28, and booked this house for us and our bridal party. This house MADE our wedding weekend. The day after the wedding, we had a catered bbq so that we could have our friends and family over since the day of the wedding is a little harder to spend legitimate time with loved ones. Brian is absolutely amazing – the kindest and funniest man. He only wanted the best for us for our wedding weekend. He is always available for any questions and is always checking in to see if there is anything you need. The rest of the people who are involved with the house are wonderful as well – Leif, among others. They are the best people. The grounds are absolutely stunning. The view is amazing. I can’t say enough great things about this retreat. We will definitely be staying here many more times in our future!!! Thank you for helping make our wedding weekend the most memorable time in our lives!

Perfect Family Wedding

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – August 19, 2015

My wife and I just returned from our wedding that we hosted at Brian’s Mountain Shadows home. It was absolutely incredible and more than we could have ever anticipated. From the moment that we booked, Brian was attentive and helpful and worked with us to recommend ways to make our experience perfect. Our goal was to host a small wedding reception with close family and friends. We had approximately 50 guests. Our immediate families were able to stay with us at the home and we all fit very comfortably. We were married at small church in Folsom; however, we hosted our rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, and morning after brunch at Mountain Shadows. The home was perfect for our reception. The huge deck off of the kitchen perfectly accommodated our entire dinner party. We placed a small bar and a couple of tall round tables on the lower level deck and we were able easily entertain our guests. Many of our guests relaxed by the pool where the kids and adults alike enjoyed the pristine setting. We also had yard games (ladder ball, bocce ball, etc) in the front yard. Our guests enjoyed roasting s’mores by the fire pit as well. The setting was a perfect place for a laid back reception that allowed us to still take good care of our guests. We hired an incredible caterer and his team was able to easily prepare dinner for 50 in the high-end kitchen. The outdoor, built-in barbecue was also awesome. While the home was simply perfect and allowed our families to comfortably join us for our celebration, we were even more surprised by how attentive Brian and his team were. When we first arrived Angel took a great deal of time showing us around and explained how everything worked. She made sure that we knew where to find everything. Leif and Buck both came by to check-in and see if there was anything at all that we might need. They cleaned the grounds and restocked the fire wood as needed. To put it simply, renting this home made for an incredible experience. It allowed us to have the wedding that we dreamed. Our families had a place to gather and spend quality time together. The house was pristine, well appointed, and the view off the back deck never got old. We were able to provide various activities all within the confines of the beautiful gated property. I hope that we have an opportunity to return time and time again. Thank you, Brian!

Great for multiple families

Wow. This house was amazing. I stayed with a group of 6 total families. There was plenty of room and never once did we feel crowded. The house was very conducive to large groups, with a large open kitchen that opens up to a deck with beautiful views of the American River Canyon. There were really neat custom made furniture, the best was a long table fitting at least 14 people. The outside amenities were nice too. The pool with waterfall were used frequently. Every morning with played sports on the large front yard. Brian (the owner) was great to work with. He was very accommodating and texted frequently to make sure everything was ok. I highly recommend this place. My friends and I agree that anyone would have a difficult time finding as great a place for such a good deal.

“Friends and Family Luau Fellowship Weekend”

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – July 30, 2015

Where do I start…? Well first off, the location and drive from SF is conveniently close. Once you get to Foresthill, the scenery and views up hill is spectacular. The House… Wow! You can tell, they really really spent a lot of money, time and effort with the set-up and remodel of this great property. Top quality furniture, appliances, entertainment, etc. My friends and I really enjoyed all the accommodations. Backyard views are magnificent. We all couldn’t stop taking pictures and selfies. Kids and adults enjoyed the spacious pool as well, during the day and night. Having a great sized front yard area, all of the families enjoyed games, trivia, and relay races. And having said that, us being a big group, the whole 1.5 acres lot and house accommodated all of us perfectly. The weather during our 4-day stay was also great. Birds were flying on top of us and we got occasional visits from our friend, “stretchy” the grey colored squirrel, who once in awhile gazes at us will stretching it’s legs for a quick sip by the pool. Lol… For our last night, we did a Hawaiian Luau themed dinner with games. So we opened up the retractable glass doors by the dining area to the spacious balcony. It was a fun-filled experience enjoying the sunset and cool breeze with friends and love one’s. And lastly, I would like to thank Brian and Mark for all the help, the info., and courtesy you guys did to make our stay a lot more worry and stress free. We would definitely come back! The kids are already asking me, when are we planning to go back to Mountain Shadows Retreat…? Lol. I say, pretty soon… Thanks, Mountain Shadows Retreat for a great and memorable stay! More power and Godspeed!

Great house for a wedding

We along with 4 other couples spent 4 days at Mountain Shadow To celebrate a wedding. The house is truly spectacular. It has a great kitchen that is open to a deck that has folding glass doors that make the kitchen, dinning area and deck into a huge entertainment area. The views from the 3 decks were spectacular especially in the mornings. It has numerous gathering areas areas both inside and out that we used for a large party the day after the wedding. The attention to detail in the house was truly extraordinary from the premium bedding to the dinning table made from a split tree trunk. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a large quality house to have a great time!

Wedding Open House

five-star-rating

My daughter recently got married in Forresthill while my wife and I along with 4 other couples stayed in perhaps one of the most beautiful rental properties I have ever seen – Mountain Shadows Retreat. In addition, the day after the wedding we hosted a post wedding open house for approximately 50 – 75 wedding guests. Because of the various gathering spots on the property, including the pool, never once did it feel crowded or uncomfortable. This is truly a wonderful property, with spectacular views. I highly recommend it for parties, weddings, retreats or just a vacation getaway. You will not be disappointed and we will definitely be back.

for those about to rock!

Date of Stay – July 20, 2015

writing this from a bride’s point of view (but also someone who fell in love with this house and this location) – i live in los angeles with my now husband who is from meadow vista, ca. we decided to get married in foresthill because of the venue (foresthill lodge) and to be close to his family and friends. my family and friends are from southern california and nyc – so to us, it was a “destination wedding.” we were a bit concerned with the hotel accommodations in the area as well as the long drive from town to the wedding venue. my parents we’re hoping to host some type of breakfast the day after the wedding but had no idea where (we were thinking, RV on the wedding venues property, holiday inn, etc.) – options were limited and none of them felt like “home.” when we were introduced to brian and his AMAZING house – we instantly fell in love. it was absolutely perfect! not only could my parents stay near the wedding site, they (we) could come up early, get settled (being from out of town, we had a ton of decorations, cooking, planning, etc. to do), relax before the wedding and party after the wedding! my parents had friends stay with them before and after the wedding and thew and amazing day after breakfast/lunch. the property offers numerous areas to hang out, we had groups of people at the pool, the downstairs deck, the upstairs deck, the kitchen, etc. it was awesome! the property is pet friendly too – our dog somba loved it! i can honestly say our wedding would not have been such a success without this property – it was the perfect place for us “out of towners” to prep, relax and celebrate before and after the wedding! the house is immaculate, the views are spectacular, the doors that open from the kitchen to the deck are beyond cool – it really is paradise in the hills 🙂 we will definitely be back and are thinking of making it a yearly honeymoon destination for us and the families!

With the beautiful home and wonderful catering it was perfect.

Mountain Shadows is 5 star luxury resort living in the mountains

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – July 2, 2015

We immediately fell in love with this home which is really a 5 star resort from every perspective. The home is nestled away on the edge of the mountains with breath taking views and only a 3 minute walk from the downtown area of Forest Hill. We had 6 people staying at the house but it sleeps comfortably 20 so we had plenty of room to stretch out with an amazing pool, various decks with views, and an outdoor grill and fireplace that my wife used every night and then took pictures of so that we can buy the exact same set up when we return to Arizona. What I really like most about Mountain Shadows was the mgmt team and ownership who were so easy to work with and who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. We will return again for certain in the near future. I would highly recommend this home and again I want to thank the mgmt team…they really made it happen for us.

Pictures do this property no justice, absolutely beautiful inside and out. Spent 5 days at the retreat with my kids, we had a blast. The management arranged gold minng adventures, both panning and in the caves, and yes, we actually brought some gold home! Went to a shooting range and learned how to shoot guns, lots of hiking, hung out at one of the rivers as well as two beautiful lakes where we fished and swam. The home itself was amazing. Very rustic, yet extremely contemporary. Fantastic views with lots of seating on all the decks, heated pool, bonfires on the premises. Loved the outdoor kitchen/grill area. This retreat is great for family’s or just a romatic getaway. Overall, if youre looking to escape the city .. this is the place. I hihgly recommend giving it a try, we will absoloutely return!

What an amazing place to stay!! We stayed for two nights but two nights was not enough to fully enjoy our time there. We all wanted to stay another whole week! Our trip to the house was actually a surprise from our friends we were visiting in Sacramento, we pulled up and they surprised us by saying we were staying at this beautiful resort for a couple nights! Honestly I was speechless. This place has it all, an amazing pool, multiple decks, an outdoor patio grill, a fire pit, an outdoor fireplace, and amazing views. My favorite parts were the pool, the patio, and the kitchen. These parts were just so very inviting to sit and watch the sun go down and then gather in the kitchen and talk all night. We definitely will be coming back to spend more time in the amazing place. Thanks to our friends who gave us the surprise of a year.

The accommodations were great, clean, and perfect for our group. It’s really a beautiful cabin. Also, the heated pool was really fun! Other highlights include the sliding glass doors that blow open into a gorgeous deck space, the Game of Thrones – esque dinner table, the pinball machine, and so much more. The owner was more than accommodating and awesome to work with. We really couldn’t have had a better experience. I know for a fact that I’ll be back soon!

The start to a scary movie

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – May 15, 2015

You know those movies where a bunch of friends get together and head to the woods? Yeah, the one where they’re in the middle of nowhere and just arrived to this scary looking house? The one you know hides a serial killer in the basement? Ok, well this place is not it… This place is beautiful!! MAGNIFICENT if I might say. Total relaxation, and mind cleansing. The place that one only dreams and fantasizes to live in. My life goal for retirement. Step outside to the deck area. Where one can lounge first thing in the morning before sunrise and sip on a wonderfully scented cup of coffee. All around you the wild greats you and says good morning, the smell of pine trees and fresh air awaken your senses. It almost feels glutinous to indulge in such a beautiful morning. Stare out into the sunrise that blankets the forest. It is so beautiful that sight, that you don’t want to go back inside, but your hungry and not to mention excited to work your magic in that masterpiece of a kitchen. Sadly, you start your way back inside… Then bang! You finally wake up and realize that what looks like a wall full of windows is actually an open wall. Now you can open this home to the wonderful out doors and bring in the forest to make your experience that much better. The kitchen awaits, and anything that you would like to cook, can be made in this kitchen. There is a pot, pan, utensil, and kitchen appliance for almost everything. Not to mention the mounds of space that this sexy, beast of a kitchen has. You can pretend to be a star to your own food network tv show in this kitchen. Truly my most favorite place of the whole entire experience that Mountain Shadow Resort could give. Of course after a nice breakfast a nice shower awaits. Out of all the many bathrooms, the one that you will want to experience is the one with the many shower heads. The one that will turn your time in Forest Hills into Rain Forest Hills. I know cheesy, but may I add that all of the towels, and linens feel super fluffy and luxurious. The bedrooms are very nice and the beds are super comfy. I loved the tempur pedic pillows. That master bed is ridiculously good looking. There is so much forest that can be seen outside, and all throughout the house threw the windows and sliding doors. It’s pet friendly, and super fun for dogs. At night you can go out by the outdoor fire place or fire pit and listen to all of the wild, that is in the forest. Like frogs, crickets, and owls.

Mirth in the Mountains

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – April 3, 2015

I work from home, and while I get to toil in my pajamas until noon, I still need to get away from it all, and that’s where Mountain Shadows came in. My videographer husband and I packed our bags and headed from the busy San Francisco Bay Area into the woods. The change of scenery was exactly what I needed to help get over some writer’s block, and the trip didn’t take very long at all, maybe two hours, total. Upon arrival, we noticed the gorgeous view of the canyon on the west side of the house. Mountain Shadows’ construction was designed in such a way that the canyon can be seen from just about everywhere. Our house has views of other houses, so we were beside ourselves with glee. There is a grocery store right up the road, so if you forget your S’mores stuff and want to use the fire pit–no worries. Worton’s will have what you need. There is also a Raley’s in Auburn should you need more specialized items. My husband and I are total foodies–we’re always competing for kitchen time–so the semi-professional kitchen with Thermador appliances was loads of fun and large enough for both of us to cook together. The weather was a bit chilly, or we would have used the DCS Fisher and Paykel appliances in the outdoor kitchen, too! Speaking of the outdoor kitchen–the wall of windows in the dining area retracts accordion style so when the weather is nice, everything can be completely opened so the indoor kitchen, dining area, deck, and outdoor kitchen become one, large living and entertaining space! Family holidays would be stress-free in such a spacious environment! We are actually planning to host at least one family gathering here later this year with the notion to make it an annual tradition. The bunk room would be GREAT for the younger kids. They would LOVE it. The house has two indoor fireplaces which were great for knocking the chill out of the evening air while we watched movies and logged some gaming time on the Xbox One. Of course, there is central heat/air, too, but nothing beats a fire in a fireplace, especially at night with a glass of wine. The bed in the master suite was extravagantly comfortable, and the spa-like shower was heavenly! I don’t know what brand the bed was, but I want one! We arrived home feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, and cannot wait to return.

Luxury retreat close to home

five-star-rating

Date of Stay – March 20, 2015

I stayed at Mountain Shadows earlier this month with a group of four friends. Our group had originally been looking to fly to a getaway location from the bay area, but when we couldn’t coordinate flight schedules, we looked at something within driving distance. Only a little over two hours away, this rental place proved easy to coordinate and provided ample space and the luxuries we wanted for a relaxing and comfortable experience. I have to clarify that my stay could have been sweetened by being lucky to snag the master bedroom – a tiled bathroom with multiple shower heads(!), a private deck with gorgeous views of the forested hills during the day and twinkling city lights at night, all from an extra comfy king bed. But just to make sure my review was legit, I tested the beds across the hall and confirmed that each is topped with foam and all feel luxurious. One of our girlfriends owns a catering company, and the semi-professional kitchen at M.S. came with great appliances and cooking areas to execute a four-course tasting meal during our stay. The next day we roasted a rotisserie chicken on the outdoor BBQ. Something I always keep in mind when traveling with large parties is bathroom accommodations. You could use a new bathroom every day at this place – it boasts 5. Our group of friends is child-free, but the double bunk bed room would be ideal for families traveling with a boisterous crew, or perfect for sleeping bachelor/bachelorette groups. While this was more of a relaxing getaway, we’ve already planned to come back in the summer for some horseback riding in the area and use of the (heated) pool at the house – plus we plan to bring the dogs! This house is also perfect for a company retreat-a sneaky suggestion I hope to propose to our tech firm. Overall we had a beautiful experience and feel lucky to find a place that can serve so many groups and purposes.

We decided to leave town for a quick weekend getaway and booked it for two nights at Mountain Shadows. What can I say the place was fantastic, we had one of the best weekends ever. The views are jaw dropping, the house feels like your own just better! The bed is better than my own. You get total peace and quiet at Mountain Shadows but with the luxury of having a grocery store within 5 minutes drive. There’s plenty to do in the surrounding area from hiking to biking and some horse trails thrown in for good measure. Really can’t say enough good things about the place, can’t wait to come back. The dogs loved it too.
